Rolls-Royce has entered into a partnership with the Indian IT services major, Tata Consultancy Services(TCS), with an aim to accelerate its digital transformation. As part of the five year agreement, TCS will provide digital platform capabilities to Rolls-Royce that will help Rolls-Royce to speed up the development of new products and will also help the company in offering new services to its customers. Rolls-Royce is already among the top five customers of TCS in the United Kingdom and with the new agreement, the two companies have expanded their partnership to exploit future data innovation opportunities.
“Through this partnership we will be able to improve the overall process around our products and also optimise our manufacturing processes. We would also be able to monitor the health of our existing engines. The partnership will also allow us to accelerate our application of industrial artificial intelligence, and a range of other cutting edge breakthrough opportunities,” said Neil Crockett, Chief Digital Officer of Rolls Royce while announcing the partnership.
Interestingly, Rolls-Royce already has more than 20 years of experience in combining its engineering expertise with data analytics, in order to offer operational efficiencies to its airline customers. Rolls-Royce and TCS have been working in partnership on engineering services since 2010 and Rolls-Royce is collaborating with its partners to enhance digital innovation.
“Possibilities are endless and we are excited about this opportunity with Rolls-Royce. We also work with multiple airlines globally. We have found that organisations are increasingly building upon a digital foundation to transform their businesses, and we are actively guiding them to become increasingly more intelligent, automated and agile,” remarked Rajesh Gopinathan, CEO and Managing Director of Tata Consultancy Services.
Globally, Rolls-Royce has customers in more than 150 countries, comprising more than 400 airlines and leasing customers, 160 armed forces, 4,000 marine customers including 70 navies, and more than 5,000 power and nuclear customers. Rolls-Royce started its journey in India more than 80 years ago with the powering of the first aircraft for both the Indian Air Force and the Indian Navy. In India, the company has engineering centres at Bengaluru and Pune. Its engineering centre in Bengaluru focuses on aerospace projects and its engineering centre in Pune supports Research and Development programmes and product development, particularly in data analysis, electrical systems and computer aided design engineering.
