The father of a woman, allegedly raped by a BJP MLA, has died under mysterious circumstances in police custody in Uttar Pradesh.

On Sunday, the woman from Unnao had accused BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar and his accomplices of raping her. The victim made an abortive bid to immolate herself near chief minister Yogi Adityanath’s residence on Sunday.

She had poured kerosene on herself and was about to immolate when the cops deployed in the area overpowered her. She was taken to nearby Gautam Palli police station.

On the other hand, accused Sengar said the girl is staging a drama and her attempt to commit suicide is nothing but a “ploy to spoil his political image”.

According to the victim, one of her neighbour had taken her to the residence of the MLA on June 4, 2017, in the pretext of getting a job. The MLA was cordial initially, and had promised a job. Subsequently, Sainger took her to nearby places like Nawabgunj, Farrukhabad and kept her on “house arrest”, during which she was allegedly raped by the MLA and his men.

She got an opportunity to flee on June 13. Soon, she approached the police to get her complaint registered. But when nothing happened she met chief minister Adityanath on August 17, 2017. But even after the CM’s order, the police did not do anything in the case.

The woman also alleged that the MLA and his men were putting a lot of pressure on her for a comprise. When she refused, fake cases were slapped on her father and uncle to frighten them.

After that, she approached the court, which is to hear her case on Tuesday.

In his defence, Sengar said: “This is a well thought conspiracy against me. Some of my opponents used this lady as a tool of revenge against me.”

Meanwhile, ADG Rajiv Krishna, after meeting the victim has assured a probe into the whole incident.
