Even as the Padmavati controversy refuses to die down, the BJP has taken potshots at Congress vice president Rahul Gandi, comparing him to Alauddin Khilji.
Launching a scathing attack on Rahul Gandhi over his visits to temples in Gujarat, senior BJP leader GVL Narasimha Rao accused him of following in the footsteps of Khalji and Aurangzeb, reports PTI.
Rao further said just like Khilji and Aurangzeb destroyed famous temples in the country during their rule and later vowed to rebuild them. "Aurangzeb had destroyed many temples during his rule. However, when the common people opposed him, he promised to build two-three temples. Alauddin Khalji did the same...And now Rahul Gandhi is going in the same direction."
During his campaign trail in poll-bound Gujarat, Rahul Gandhi visited several temples in the state, and the BJP had accused him of playing 'softcore' Hindutva in order to attract the majority community ahead of the elections.
"Gandhi's visits to temples is a drama. Gandhi is trying to mislead the people by embarking on temple visits, which has become a compulsion for the Congress vice president in view of the elections," the BJP leader said.
According to PTI, Rao welcomed the proposal of Uttar Pradesh Shia Waqf Board on resolving the Ayodhya issue and asked the Congress president where his party stands on the issue.
