NEET 2024: NMC Revises Age Criteria, Tie-Breaking Rules for Medical Entrance Exam; applicable from next year

The National Testing Agency (NTA) is the conducting authority of this NEET 2024 entrance examination. National Eligibility cum Entrance Test ( NEET 2024 ) is India’s medical exam conducted to provide admission into Medical, Dental, AYUSH, and nursing courses.

NMC Revised Age Criteria:

According to the latest report, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has changed the minimum age requirement for NEET 2024 applying candidates. The age of the applying candidates must be 17 years on or before January 31st of the year of admission to the UG courses.

As per the newly notified Graduate Medical Education Regulations (GMER-23). Recently, the deadline for calculating the minimum eligibility age was December 31 of the academic year.

To be eligible for the admission into MBBS, BDS, and AYUSH Programmes, candidates must have completed their 10+2 or its equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Biotechnology, and English. Through a gazette, these changes in the eligibility have been released.

New tie-Breaking Rules of NEET UG 2024

NMC informed that in case there is a tie in the NEET UG marks, the scores in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology individually will be taken into consideration in that order.

In case the tie continues, those eligible candidates will be selected from the draw lots by using a computer, with no human intervention. These rules and regulation will be applicable from NEET UG 2024 examination.

As per the latest notice of NMC, it clarified that “the previous procedures and rules (as per information bulletin published by the National Testing Agency) will be followed for deciding “the inter-se-merit of candidates for tie-breaking” in NEET-UG 2023 results.”

Guidelines of GMER 2023

GMER 2023 guidelines has stated that NMC may conduct the NEET UG or may designate a single agency or multiple agencies to conduct NEET UG entrance exam.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) is conducting the national-level entrance exam for various UG medical courses currently.

According to the NMC’s new regulations state that there will be common counselling procedure conducted by the authority for admission into graduate courses in medicine for all medical institutions in India based on the NEET UG merit list.

The reduction in the maximum duration of completion of MBBS course from 10 years to nine years has also done by the commission.

NEET 2024 Exam Pattern

As per the official, there is no official announcement yet regarding the NEET 2024 exam dates. The authority will release the NEET 2024 Application Form & other details soon on the official website.

NEET is a pen-and-paper based test consist with the Multiple-Choice Questions. NEET 2024 may be conducted in an online computer-based mode. This transition in the entrance exam may aims to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and reduce logistical challenges.
