The MCC Boyd Tandon School of Business (BTSB) was officially inaugurated on Monday by Dr Paul Wilson, principal of the Madras Christian College. The MCC management and academic staff attended the inauguration.

Though established in 2016, BTSB now has the approval of the All India Council for Technical Education to function as a standalone management school. The school offers a two-year full-time Post Graduate Diploma in Management programme.

“The school will prepare future business leaders who are society-, industry-, global-, venture- and impact-ready and are raring to go and face corporate challenges,” BTSB said in a release.

BTSB was launched as a tribute to Dr Alexander John Boyd, who was the principal of MCC for 18 years from 1938 to 1956. He was a legend among his students, and his bust graces the foyer in front of the MCC principal’s office. While a memorial bust in itself does not mean much, the figurine attains special value because it was commissioned by a colossus among Boyd’s students—Dr Raja Ramanna, former director of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre who oversaw India’s first nuclear weapons test in 1974, former head of the Atomic Energy Commission, and former minister of state for defence.

Indian American philanthropist Chandrika Krishnamurthy Tandon lent her name and financial support to the school. Tandon, a Grammy-nominated musician, and her sister Indra Nooyi, former PepsiCo chief, are alumnae of MCC.

In 2015, Tandon and her husband, Ranjan Tandon, had donated $100 million to the NYU Tandon School of Engineering at New York University.
