Dr Panna Lal Gupta has earned a place in people’s hearts through his true human service. His personality separates him from the crowd.

Meet Dr Panna Lal Gupta. He was born in March 1958 in Gurud village of Ghazipur District, Uttar Pradesh. In 1995, he established Gupta Surgical Hospital and never turned back. Today, Dr Panna Lal Gupta, Director of the famous PL Gupta Surgical Hospital Private Limited in the Mau District of Uttar Pradesh, is a well-known name in the medical map of Uttar Pradesh. He has made a mark as a successful doctor and social worker in Mau district and is working on the plan for setting up a Terminal Care Hospital.

According to Dr Gupta, this Care Centre, which will start with 20 beds in Mau, will be designed keeping in mind the problems of patients suffering from serious diseases like the last stages of cancer, etc. To offer relief to such terminally ill patients, appropriate arrangements will be ensured at the Centre so that those suffering are provided proper relief and treatment, along with counselling and other assistance to the family members.

Education

Dr Pannalal Gupta, who had shown academic interest early on and had been identified as a bright student with a future, had his early education at Adarsh Middle School in the village and completed his Matriculation from Khardihan Sarvodaya Inter College. He did a pre-university course at Banaras Hindu University and later obtained a B.Sc. degree from the same university. With the dream of becoming a doctor, Panna Lal Gupta joined BHU’s Institute of Medical Science in 1978. He was awarded an MBBS degree in 1982.

After an internship at BHU in 1983, Dr Gupta did his MS and served as a consultant surgeon at Aliya General Hospital, Mau. A few months later, he got an offer from Fatima Hospital, where he joined as a consultant surgeon.

Family

Dr Gupta’s wife, Meena Gupta, says that her husband always prioritises work and devotes much of his time in serving his patients. She adds that he worked hard, struggled all his life, putting their children’s education first. Their son, Dr Abhishek Gupta, is a renowned surgeon in Mau, while their daughter, Vaishnavi Gupta, has completed her Master’s in law.

Serving through Associations

Dr Pannalal Gupta, over the years, has presented himself as a great example of service. He is a life member of the Indian Medical Association. He is a permanent member of the Mau Lok Adalat of Uttar Pradesh and a member of the Railway Consultancy. He has also been a member of the Alternative Energy Committee of Mau District.

Dr Gupta, who has earned fame as the State Vice President of the Uttar Pradesh Nursing Home Association and President of Mau in the same association, has also been the President of the Lions Club of Mau Mahan. During this period, he organised free medical camps and tree plantations in the district.

Dr Gupta is a lifelong member of the Indian Medical Association. He was also the President of IMA - Mau six times and people still remember the work done by him in the field of medicine.

Awards

Uttar Pradesh’s renowned General and Laparoscopic surgeon Dr Pannalal Gupta has also been honoured with the President’s Appreciation Award by the IMA. In 2021, he was also awarded the Samsi Award. It was due to Dr Panna Lal Gupta’s remarkable contribution to the field of medicine that he was also honoured with the Ram Manohar Lohia Award by the Government of Uttar Pradesh in 2016.

Given Dr Gupta’s extraordinary work for better medical care and a healthy society, he has been given a prominent place in the Coffee Table Book, ‘Icons of India’, published by a leading media group in 2022. In the same year, during a programme organised by the National IMA in Mau, he was honoured with the National President Special Appreciation Award as well as the IMA Dr A.K.N. Sinha National Award by the National President at the IMA Netcon programme, organised in Prayagraj.

Because of the commendable work done by Dr Gupta in the field of medicine, he has also been bestowed the Pioneers in Health Care Award by Harivansh, Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha, in a programme organised by a a publishing house in Patna in 2023.
