What will happen if a pride takes on a fully-grown rhinoceros? South Africa's Sanbona Wildlife Reserve almost gave us the answer this past week. The lions, despite having the advantage of numbers, couldn't stand the fury of the hard-skinned rhino.
The video of the faceoff was shared on YouTube by Jordan Davidson, a safari guide at Sanbona. The video begins showing a rhino with a lion and a lioness on a picturesque pasture. There is no sign of trouble as the carefree lion rests a few steps away from the rhino. The lioness too, walks away from it before settling down not very far off.

The mighty mammal, intimidating with its fiercely big horn, understands the message and slowly walks back. It is then that we realize that there is a third lioness on the scene. It pounces on the retreating rhino from behind, forcing it to turn around. By the time the megafauna understood what was happening, the lion had made his move as well. However, a brief charge from the larger foe was enough to scare the 'King' away. He escapes a deadly gore by a whisker, the video showed.
The rhino remained ready for a face-off for a few moments but none of the three predators made a move. As if it wanted to avoid further confrontation, the rhinoceros decided to leave the scene towards the end of the video.
The video, uploaded on November 13, meanwhile caused a laughter riot on the internet. "He walked down on that rhino with that king mindset but my boy, that horn was the size of your height," one user wrote after watching the video.
"When your crazy girlfriend provokes a much larger dude at the bar, and you make the mistake of walking over to intervene," another user wrote.
"The male lion stopped to ask itself "did I just see my life flash before my eyes?"" a third reacted.
"There’s a fine line between boldness and stupidity…" another pointed out condemning the lioness for putting its friends in harm's path.
