Sony India is planning to focus on its premium segment and further consolidate its position in the market.

Sunil Nayyar, Sony India's managing director, told reporters in Ahmedabad on Tuesday that their market share is strong in the premium segment and they are increasing resource allocation for televisions that are 49 inches or more. He claimed that there is good response to 55inch Bravia OLED TVs which are priced at over Rs 2.49 lakh.

A major part of the production of Bravia TV sets is done in India, he said, and added that this model of TV sets offers the best user interface.

Noting that there is 100 per cent growth in the premium segment compared to last year, he said the this segment is the company's forte and the plan is to make it even stronger.

When asked if their business will take a hit as Mi launched 55inch televisions, he said in India they have customers for all segments. “We are looking at the middle and top level. Everyone can survive,” he added.

Nayyar felt that in the coming days, there will be more takers for OLED segment. “The customer, who is price sensitive, has a choice,” he remarked.

Talking about OLED, he said it has seamless display, clearer picture and sharpness.

Overall, he said Sony India was expecting a two digits growth in the current fiscal.

About the audio segment, he said the new one box system, introduced for party goers, has four models and the company has about 60 to 70 per cent market share in the segment.

He, however, clarified that that despite the increase in import duty of television sets and other electronic gadgets, the company has no plan to set up production plant for premium television and other gadgets in India.
