Disruption to Air India services, as a result of the global outage in its SITA server system early on Saturday morning, is expected to continue into the night. The information was provided by Air India Chairman and Managing Director Ashwani Lohani at a press conference.

Thousands of passengers were left stranded after Air India's SITA server system experienced a worldwide outage around 3.30am on Saturday. Giving more details about the outage, which lasted for around five hours, Lohani said, “about 85 out of 427 Air India flights were delayed. Some flights will be cancelled”. He declared the issue was solved by 8.45am.

Lohani added, “We are providing refreshments and refunds to passengers.” Lohani revealed SITA staff in Atlanta were “still trying to understand what caused the problem. Only Air India flights were affected. We are not sure if the company will provide any compensation; so far, we are trying to resolve the problem. The delays in flights will remain till tonight.”

Lohani and other senior executives of Air India rushed to airports early on Saturday “to take control of situation & facilitate pax”, the carrier tweeted on Saturday morning.
