Prime Minister Narendra Modi launches an indigenously built metro coach to be used by Mumbai metro. The coach, the first in the list of 500 to be delivered to the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation, has been built by Bharat Earth Movers (BEML) at its Bengaluru facility in flat 75 days.
Accompanied by state chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, Modi launched the coach.
The coach is the first make in He laid the foundation stones for three metro lines in Mumbai, to be built at an investment of Rs 19,000 crore which will add 42 km to the current metro network in the city.
The new corridors are the 9.2-km Gaimukh-Shivaji Chowk (Mira Road) metro-10; the 12.8-km Wadala-CST metro-11; and the 20.7-km Kalyan-Taloja metro-12 corridor.
Modi also inaugurated Bandongri metro station in suburban Kandivali, on the upcoming line 7. According to a city official, the venue of PM Modi's event in Mumbai was shifted to the Jio World Centre's mega convention centre from the MMRDA Grounds due to possibility of rain.
Metropolitan commissioner RA Rajeev was seen explaining how the new coach will enable commuters to travel along with their bicycles to the destinations, as is seen in the cities of the developed world.
“The aim of reaching the moon will be accomplished; Isro scientists will not rest till the objective is met,” Modi said while inaugurating the railway station at Kandivali, Mumbai. He also laid the foundation stone for Metro Bhavan, which will house the 337-km of planned metro lines in the megapolis.
"I have been inspired by ISRO scientists, the kind of dedication they showed, their hard work and how they worked day and night. We can learn from them," PM Modi said. “I have heard of Mumbai spirit. I saw the spirit of ISRO scientists today," he added. During his visit to the city, Modi also went for a 'darshan' of Lord Ganesha at the 96-year old Lokmanya Seva Sangh at Vile Parle in Mumbai
Modi, who was at ISRO earlier during the day, is also slated to visit Aurangabad and inaugurate AURIC (Aurangabad Industrial City) business and administrative building. While in the city, Modi will also address a state-level Mahila Saksham Melava or a meet of self-help groups organised by Maharashtra State Rural Livelihood Mission (UMED).
