Piaggio India unveiled their brand new Aprillia SXR 160 at the Auto Expo 2020. Piaggio also unveiled the Vespa Elettrica electric scooter. The Elettrica has been in production in Europe for quite some time now. But the company will not be selling the same in India. Piaggio is looking to make a specialised Elettrica for the Indian market alone as competition in the electric scooter segment heats up.

The SXR 160 will be manufactured at Piaggio's Baramati facility and is expected to have a commercial launch in Oct-Dec 2020. The SXR 160 will be available in four colours – Blue, White, Red and Black. Bookings for the Aprilia SXR 160 is set to begin in August 2020. It is also set to have a 160 CC BS-6 and 125 CC BS-6 engine options.
The Vespa Elettrica will be a brand new electric scooter just for the Indian market. The europan version has a brishless DC motor with 4kW peak power with 200 Nm of torque. The battery is a 4.2 kWh lithium ion unit that the company claims has a range of 100 km in Eco mode and 70 km in Power mode. The Power mode offers a maximum speed of 70kmph and 45kmph in the Eco mode. The Vespa Elettrica is set for production in the enxr 2 years time.
