The department of anaesthesia, critical care and pain medicine, at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC), in Boston, which is a teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School, has established the Sadhguru Center for a Conscious Planet.

The aim of the centre is to improve the health of patients and the broader community through scientific research in areas of consciousness, cognition and compassion.

A statement from BIDMC said, “Using scientific tools, the center’s research and ongoing clinical studies are focused on establishing the relationship between meditative practices and physiological changes. This is part of Sadhguru’s initiatives to establish global platforms that will raise individual human consciousness to accelerate the journey towards creating a conscious planet.”

Sadhguru, who has chaired many events in Harvard, said Isha is delighted to associate with the centre.

Dr Bala Subramaniam is the newly appointed director of the centre. Since 2014 he has served as the director of the Center for Anaesthesia Research Excellence in Harvard.

BIDMC, formed by merging the Beth Israel Hospital and the New England Deaconess Hospital in 1996, is one of the largest hospitals in New England, comprising the US states of Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Vermont, Rhode Island and Connecticut.
