What does it mean to be financially free? As Chris Choi describes it, financial freedom is to have the funds necessary to live the life you choose, free from monetary burden. This kind of life is one in which money is simply a means for happiness rather than something to be worried about, and Choi has taken it upon himself to show as many people as he can just how possible it is to reach this lifestyle. Through his conglomerate of around 2 million followers across his TikTok and Instagram pages, Choi has dedicated his time to giving others the knowledge necessary to live their best lives.
Chris Choi was born in South Korea in July of 1991. After coming to the United States to pursue higher education, Choi graduated with a double major in Human Biology and Psychology. With the dream of becoming a dentist, he entered a prestigious dental program fully confident that this was the life he was to live. However, after doing some hard thinking about where he wanted to go in life and how he needed to get there, Choi decided that becoming a dentist was not the best path to take. So, after dropping out of dental school with $8,000 to his name, Choi sub-rented his first property from Airbnb. What started as a simple investment, a one-bedroom apartment, would eventually turn into the Airbnb monopoly that Choi holds now. 7 years and over 100 Airbnb properties later, he has earned the title of Top 1% Airbnb Earner.
On top of his Airbnb business (which is rapidly closing in on 10 million dollars in revenue), Choi holds a variety of other investments. These include and are not limited to a golf business, a tech startup pledging to resolve real estate’s most pertinent problems, a chain of restaurants, a luxury vehicle rental service, and more.
When Chris Choi has time to spare between managing his multiple other businesses, he is mentoring individuals who wish to create for themselves a source of passive income. One piece of advice that is pounded into his lessons is to get a mentor for your endeavors. Having a mentor, as Choi himself puts it, is “the biggest shortcut to success.” He explains that having a mentor allows you to skip over many mistakes that first timers in a field make, since a good mentor will have experienced them already. He recommends learning “from a business owner who’s at least 10 years ahead of you.”
