Employees in India are planning to stay put at their current places of employment this year, according to a survey by the job portal, Indeed. This could be the result of the downtrend in hiring that many industries witnessed.

Over 37 per cent of all job seekers are looking to prioritise their career growth in 2023, instead of switching to new companies, the survey revealed, reported Business Insider. According to the survey, 47 per cent of employees revealed that they have no intention to switch jobs this year.

Apart from the mass layoffs that the IT industry witnessed in recent times, the IT and IT enabled service sector has witnessed slow hiring, with merely 29 per cent of employers in the sector looking to take in new talents.

Overall, only 53 per cent of employers said they recruited talent in the January-March quarter. The figure stood at 64 per cent in the October-December quarter.

Indeed India head of sales Sashi Kumar said, “Amidst the ongoing uncertainties, the overall sentiment of job seekers and employers seems to be cautious."

Not all sectors saw a dip in hiring. According to the survey, 71 per cent of the employers in the financial services and insurance (BFSI) were hiring in the January-March quarter. There was significant hiring in healthcare and construction and real estate sector as well, 64 per cent and 57 per cent respectively.

"Employers now need to focus on devising ways in which they can retain and continue to attract this talent pool,” Kumar was quoted as saying.
