Brian Humphries, former chief executive officer of IT major Cognizant, was terminated without cause, the company revealed in its stock exchange filings.

According to a Moneycontrol report, the company said Humphries’ departure “was considered an involuntary termination without cause”.

Involuntary termination without a cause would mean that there needs to have no misconduct or other grounds for the dismissal. Such employees are entitled to severance pay.

Former Infosys executive S. Ravi Kumar replaced Humphries as the CEO.

The change in leadership in January came after years of under-performance by the company and high levels of attrition among other reasons.

Stephen J Rohleder, who was appointed chairman of the board along with Kumar, had in a letter to shareholders said, “In preparing for 2023, however, the Board recognized the need for Cognizant to progress faster, increase its commercial momentum and accelerate revenue growth. We believed that doing so required a CEO transition."

The company also revealed that its former EVP and president for Americas Gregory Hyttenrauch was asked to leave in June owing to “behavior inconsistent with company policy.”
