The Income Tax Department, on Wednesday, conducted searches on the premises of IT hardware maker Lenovo as part of a tax evasion probe against the company and some of its affiliates.
The raids covered the company's premises in Gurugram in Haryana and Bengaluru in Karnataka, according to official sources.
The sources said the taxman suspects tax evasion and hence, launched the searches to gather evidence and corroborate actionable intelligence obtained by it in this regard, reports news agency PTI.
Lenovo confirmed the visit by the Income Tax Department officials and said it was "co-operating with the authorities and will provide all possible support required".
"We adhere strictly to all applicable laws, regulations, and reporting requirements in every jurisdiction in which we do business," Reuters quoted the company as saying.
Lenovo, which leads the global personal computer (PC) market with a 24 per cent share, had clocked $1.9 billion in revenue in India in the 2022-2023 financial year, with a 17 per cent market share in the country.
