Disney is looking at either selling part of its operations or a mix of its assets

India Adani Goes Green

The US entertainment giant Walt Disney Co. held preliminary talks with billionaires Gautam Adani and Sun TV Network owner Kalanithi Maran as well as private equity funds to find potential buyers for its streaming and television business in India, including Disney+ Hotstar.

According to a Bloomberg report, the company is exploring its options to sell its Indian operations. Disney is looking at either selling part of its operations in the country or a mix of its assets, including sports rights and Disney+ Hotstar.

The discussions are only in the very preliminary stages and it is also likely that nothing might come of it.

Disney had earlier held discussions with Mukesh Ambani, whose streaming platform JioCinema is a direct competition to Disney + Hotstar as it offers free access to the Indian Premier League matches for free.

A potential acquisition of Disney's India streaming and television services would help Adani expand his reach in the media industry as he had recently acquired NDTV.

Both Maran and Adani refused to comment on the reports of talks.
