Elon Musk's artificial intelligence startup xAI which debuted an AI bot named Grok will soon be integrated into the X social media platform.
Grok which will also be available as a standalone app will be made available to all X Premium+ subscribers once it's out of beta stage, Elon Musk had posted.
Grok is expected to rival ChatGPT, developed by OpenAI, a company that was co-founded by Musk in 2015. He resigned from the OpenAI board in 2018 over a conflict of interest with his electric car maker Tesla. xAI also works with Tesla and Musk's other firms.
A day before releasing Grok, Musk posted on X, "In some important respects, it is the best that currently exists." Musk claimed the current prototype is superior to ChatGPT 3.5 across several benchmarks.
When Musk launched xAI in July, he had said that the startup was is "definitely in competition" with OpenAI. Months before xAI launch, Musk had said that he is working on 'TruthGPT',” a “maximum truth-seeking AI” that can rival ChatGPT, Google's Bard and Microsoft's Bing AI.
“I’m going to start something which I call TruthGPT or a maximum truth-seeking AI that tries to understand the nature of the universe,” Musk told Tucker Carlson in a Fox News interview in April. “And I think this might be the best path to safety in the sense that an AI that cares about understanding the universe is unlikely to annihilate humans because we are an interesting part of the universe.”
In February, Musk posted on X, (known as Twitter back then): “What we need is TruthGPT”
What is Grok?
According to xAI, Grok is “an AI modelled after the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, so intended to answer almost anything and, far harder, even suggest what questions to ask!”
The AI startup company says Grok is “designed to answer questions with a bit of wit and has a rebellious streak, so please don’t use it if you hate humor!”
The startup claims that the AI bot has “real-time knowledge of the world via the 𝕏 platform”, adding that it will “answer spicy questions that are rejected by most other AI systems.”
xAI said Grok is currently in its early beta stage and promised users that the AI bot will improve in the coming weeks with the help of users.
