The Oberoi Group Chairman Emeritus Prithvi Raj Singh Oberoi aka P.R.S. Oberoi, popularly known as “Biki”, died on Tuesday at the age of 94.
"It is with deep sadness that we inform the peaceful passing of PRS Oberoi, Chairman Emeritus of The Oberoi Group, earlier today," a statement said, adding that his legacy transcends borders, leaving an indelible mark on the global landscape.
"As we mourn the loss of a true icon, we also aim to celebrate the extraordinary legacy PRS Oberoi leaves behind. In the coming days, we will share details of our plans to honour and remember him," the statement said.
The cremation ceremony will be held at the Bhagwanti Oberoi Charitable Trust, Oberoi Farm, Kapashera, starting at 4 pm on Tuesday. "We extend a heartfelt invitation to those who know Oberoi to attend and pay their respects. Additionally, prayers will be held for him at our hotels and the Corporate Office today," the statement said.
Bestowed with the Padma Vibhushan in 2008, Biki was also honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Awards at ILTM (International Luxury Travel Market) and at 6th International Hotels Investment Forum in Berlin. He was also conferred with with the 'Corporate Hotelier of the World' award by HOTELS magazine USA.
Born in New Delhi on February 3, 1929, P.R.S was the son of late Rai Bahadur M.S. Oberoi, who founded The Oberoi Group. He was educated in Darjeeling, the UK and Switzerland.
P.R.S became the executive chairman of EIH Ltd, the flagship company of the Oberoi chain of hotels, in 2002 when his father died and continued in the post till May 2022, when he stepped down due to “deteriorating health”. His nephew, Arjun Singh Oberoi, is the Executive Chairman of EIH Limited while his son, Vikram Oberoi, is the CEO and MD of EIH Ltd.
