Sam Altman is reportedly trying to come back to ChatGPT-maker OpenAI a day after he was pushed out by the company's board in a shocking move.

But the ousted CEO is also mulling to launch a new Artificial Intelligence venture, according to Reuters, which cited a person briefed on the matter.

Altman's tweet also raised speculations regarding his possible return. “I love the Openai team so much," he posted. However, this could also mean that Altman wants some of the staffers to follow him when he sets up a new company.

Altman reportedly is in discussion with OpenAI executives about improving the company's governance structure while he is also talking to some core OpenAI researchers and others loyal to

him about how they could start a new AI firm, the agency quoted the person as saying.

The current board of the company comprises Chief Scientist Ilya Sutskever who was intrumental is pushing out Altman, Quora CEO Adam D’Angelo, former GeoSim Systems CEO Tasha McCauley and Helen Toner, the director of strategy at Georgetown’s Center for Security and Emerging Technology.

Microsoft, OpenAI's biggest investor with 49 per cent stake in the company, and other backers are pressuring the board to reinstate Altman as the CEO amid fears that a section of employees might follow him if he starts a new venture.

Vinod Khosla, the founder of Kholsa Ventures, which is an early investor of OpenAI, posted on X that the fund will back Altman, adding that it wants him to return to OpenAI or "will back him in whatever he does next.”

Meanwhile, a report by The Verge, quoting a source close to Altman, said the board had agreed in principle to resign and to allow Altman and formet OpenAI President Greg Brockman to return. However, the board missed a deadline by when several of the employees backing Altman were expected to quit, said the report, adding that these staffers would follow the ousted CEO if he starts a new AI venture.
