Update: Sam Altman and Greg Brockman will lead Microsoft's advanced AI research team, says Satya Nadella
With Sam Altman not returning as OpenAI CEO after a move by the company's executives to bring him back fails, Twitch co-founder Emmett Shear has been appointed as interim CEO, said a report by The Information, citing board director Ilya Sutskever.
Emmett Shear will replace Mira Murati, who became the interim CEO on Friday after Altman's ouster. Murati's removal from the post comes hours after she invited Altman to meet OpenAI executives at the San Francisco headquarters of the company on Sunday.
Former President Greg Brockman who quit OpenAI after he was removed from the board also reportedly joined Altman at the headquarters on Sunday to discuss a possible return to the company.
The latest move is expected to deteriorate the situation after reports suggested that several employees are planning to join a new AI venture that Altman is planning to set up. Later on Monday, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced that Altman and Brockman will join his firm to lead a new AI reaserch team. Interestingly, Microsoft is the biggest backer of OpenAI with 49 per cent stake in the company.
On Sunday, Altman tweeted on X, "First and last time i ever wear one of these," referring to the OpenAI guest badge he wore in an image attached in the post.
