Broadcom has announced that it will lay off VMware staffers after acquiring the cloud computing company for $69 billion, according to a report.

The laid off staffers were sent an email on Monday, reported Business Insider. "Broadcom recently completed its acquisition of VMware. As part of integration planning, and following an organizational needs assessment, we identified go-forward roles that will be required within the combined company. We regret to inform you that your position is being eliminated and your employment will be terminated,"  the outlet cited the mail.

The email added that the affected employees will be given a generous  severance package and a non-working paid notice period for their dedication and service.

Channel Futures claimed that 401 VMware employees will lose their jobs in the latest round of layoffs, with 217 staffers in Georgia and 184 in Colorado being affected. THE WEEK could not independently verify these figures. The report also claimed that more people will be terminated gradually.

In May 2022, Broadcom had said that it will acquire VMware for $61 billion and assume $8 billion of its net debt. The firm revealed that it closed the deal on November 22 after China gave regulatory clearance.
