Zomato suspends delivery of non-veg food in several states on the day of 'pran pratishtha' in Ayodhya

An irate customer said they would file a PIL against Zomato over this

Popular food delivery app Zomato revealed that it had suspended delivery of non-vegetarian food items in several states on the day of consecration of new Ram Lalla idol in Ram temple in Ayodhya on Monday.

After several customers took to social media to complain about the non-availability of non-vegetarian items on the app in several cities, Zomato clarified that it "disabled delivery of non-veg items in Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan as per govt. notice."

"Hope this clarification helps," wrote the customer care section of the food delivery giant on Twitter (currently known as X).

According to media reports, the head of the National Restaurant Association of India in Uttar Pradesh, Varun Khera, had earlier said restaurants in the state would be serving only vegetarian food on Monday.

Meanwhile, a social media user pointed out that while Zomato suspended delivery of non-vegetarian food items, its rival Swiggy was delivering non-vegetarian food in Chhattisgarh.

An irate customer said they would file a PIL against Zomato over this. "Indian constitution guarantees freedom to eat whatever and wherever. Public places are understandable, but why can't individuals eat whatever they want to in their homes? Who are you to tell them? Will definitely file a PIL in court against @zomato," the person commented.
