Who is Young Liu, the Taiwanese entrepreneur, who was awarded the Padma Bhushan

Foxconn is a Taiwan-based company, which assembles 70 per cent of iPhones

Young Liu, the chairman and CEO of Foxconn was awarded the Padma Bhushan. He is the only foreigner this year to receive the prestigious award. The entrepreneur and innovator was recognised for over four decades of experience in the industry.

Liu founded three companies-- in 1988 he founded a motherboard company called Young Micro Systems; an IC design company in 1995 focused on the PC chipset and an ITE Tech company, ITeX in 1997. Liu has been the head of Foxconn since 2019

Foxconn is a Taiwan-based company, the world's largest contract manufacturer and assembles around 70 per cent of iPhones. It has helped diversify production away from China, especially after disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and geopolitical tensions. 

Liu completed his BS in Electrophysics from Taiwan's National Chiao Tung University and went on to study MS in Computer Engineering from the University of Southern California. 

Liu, in July 2023, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Semicon India conference.
