Google is planning to lay off more employees in Asia-Pacific, Europe and the Middle East following its announcement of restructuring plans to cut costs, according to reports.

A Google spokesperson said the layoffs are not company-wide and the affected staff could apply for internal roles, according to Reuters. A fraction of the impacted roles will move to Bengaluru and other cities like Dublin, Atlanta and Chicago.

"Throughout the second half of 2023 and into 2024, a number of our teams made changes to become more efficient and work better, remove layers and align their resources to their biggest product priorities," Reuters quoted the spokesperson as saying.

The affected teams of the California tech major include real estate department as well as treasury, business services and revenue cash operations, according to Business Insider. The restructuring plan reportedly includes expanding operations in Bengaluru, Mexico City and Dublin.

The move comes months after CEO Sundar Pichai told Google staffers that more job cuts are expected. In January, hundreds of employees lost jobs in engineering, hardware and assistant teams.
