If reports are to be believed, Apple is planning to create a secret AI lab called 'Vision Lab' in Zurich and has been recruiting AI experts from Google.

The Zurich team is tasked with developing AI models, according to Financial Times, which claimed that the Cupertino giant has poached 36 experts from Google over the past six years.

The researchers in Zurich will look into the underlying tech that supports Microsoft-backed OpenAI's ChatGPT as it seeks to develop advanced AI products, said the report. Apple is likely to introduce AI-powered features in its upcoming iOS 18.

Who all did Apple poach from Google?

John Giannandrea who formerly helmed Google Brain is now part of DeepMind and senior director of AI and ML research at Apple. Another former Google employee joining Apple was Ruoming Pang. The former head of Google's AI speech recognition research is now leading Apple's Foundation Models team.
