Tech mogul Elon Musk has congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his election win as the latter is set to return as PM for a third consecutive term.
Musk said he is looking forward to his companies doing "exciting work" in India. “Congratulations @narendramodi on your victory in the world's largest democratic elections! Looking forward to my companies doing exciting work in India,” Musk posted on X on Friday.
The post come as Modi is set to be sworn in on June 9. Musk had earlier postponed his planned April 21-22 visit to India over "very heavy Tesla obligations".
He is now expected to travel to the country later this year as his electric car-maker is mulling an entry into the Indian EV market. Following Musk's meeting with Modi in the US in June 2023, there were talks that Musk would look at setting up a Tesla manufacturing unit in India with an investment worth billions of dollars.
After Musk sought import duty reduction for Tesla in India, the government had announced a new electric vehicle policy, under which import duty concessions will be given to companies setting up manufacturing units in the country with a minimum investment of $500 million.
He is also looking to establish an Indian presence for his satellite internet venture Starlink, which is awaiting regulatory nods.
