Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) on Monday announced the appointment of Gaurav Banerjee as its new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. The appointment is effective on or before 26 August, pending regulatory approvals.
Banerjee will replace N.P. Singh who has been holding the position for 25 years. Singh who expressed his intention to step down in May will move into the role of a Non-Executive Chairman once Banerjee takes charge.
Ravi Ahuja, Chairman of Global Television Studios and President & COO of Sony Pictures Entertainment, said, "NP Singh's leadership has been instrumental in shaping SPNI into the powerhouse it is today. I am confident that Gaurav Banerjee, with his proven track record and visionary approach, will continue to drive SPNI's success."
Who is Gaurav Banerjee?
Gaurav Banerjee earlier served as Head of Content for Hindi Entertainment at Disney+ Hotstar as well as Business Head for Star Bharat.
His career in media began as an assistant producer and anchor at Aaj Tak. Later, he moved to Star News where he produced and anchored prime time news shows.
He has pursued masters in filmmaking and TV production from Jamia Milia Islamia University and completed BA in history from St Stephens, Delhi.
