Buying in Reliance Industries, ICICI Bank pushes Sensex, Nifty to all-time high

Sensex and Nifty touched new lifetime peaks on Wednesday amid buying in Reliance Industries and ICICI Bank. This also comes in the heals of a rally in the Asian stock exchanges.

Sensex zoomed to a record high of 78,617.54 while Nifty soared touch an all-time peak of 23,859.50. Bank Nifty has also hit a lifetime high of 52,957.95.

UltraTech Cement, Reliance Industries, IndusInd Bank, Hindustan Unilever, Kotak Mahindra Bank and ICICI Bank were the gained the most in the Sensex basket while the laggards included Tata Steel, Mahindra & Mahindra, Titan and JSW Steel.

In Asian markets, Seoul, Tokyo, Shanghai and Hong Kong quoted with gains and the US markets had also ended mostly higher on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, Sensex breached the historic 78,000 level for the first time. The 30-share BSE benchmark index rallied 712.44 points to a new closing peak of 78,053.52 after hitting an intraday high of 78,164.71. Nifty had surged by 183.45 points to settle at a record closing high of 23,721.30 after touching an intraday high of 23,754.15.

Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) bought equities worth Rs 1,175.91 crore on Tuesday, according to exchange data.
