Tata Punch retained its spot as the top selling car in the country last month, surpassing Maruti Suzuki Swift, the May 2024 best-seller.
Tata Motors revealed that it sold 18,238 units of Punch last month compared to 16,422 units of the Swift. In May, the Swift saw sale of 19,393 units against 18,949 units of the Punch. Punch was the bestseller in April with 19,158 units and in March with 17,547 units.
On Monday, Tata Motors reported an 8 per cent plunge in its domestic wholesales from 80,383 units in June 2023 to 74,147 units last month.
Sales of passenger vehicles, including EVs, also tumbled 8 per cent at 43,624 units last month against 47,359 units a year ago. Commerical vehicle sales slumped 8 per cent to 30,623 units last month from to 33,148 units in the year-ago June.
On the other hand, Maruti Suzuki saw a 12 per cent rise in its wholesale figures. It dispatched 1,79,228 units to dealers in June compared to 1,59,418 units in the year-ago month. With a 3 per cent year-on-year growth, the company sold 1,37,160 units of domestic passenger vehicles last month compared to 1,33,027 units in June 2023. It also exported 31,033 units last month compared to 19,770 units in the same month of 2023.
Alto and S-Presso in the mini-segment witnessed their sales plummeting to 9,395 units last month from from 14,054 units in June 2023. Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, Ignis, Swift, Tour S and WagonR, which comes under the compact segment, was recorded at 64,049 units in June against 64,471 units in the same month last year.
The utility vehicle segment, which consists of Brezza, Ertiga, S-Cross and XL6, saw sales of 52,373 units last month compared to 43,404 units in June 2023. The Eeco sales increased to 10,771 units last month from 9,354 units in the year-ago period. Sales of light commercial vehicle Super Carry tanked from 2,992 units in June 2023 to 2,758 units last month.
