Union Budget 2024: Central government employees' union sends demands ahead of July 19 protest

The Confederation of Central Government Employees and Workers has submitted seven demands before the Centre ahead of the Union Budget 2024. The budget will be presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on July 23.

The employee union has sought to set up the 8th Pay Commission and urged the Centre to restore Old Pension Scheme among other demands. The demands submitted in a letter addressed to the Cabinet Secretary was shared by the union on their website. The union said its members will hold a demonstration on July 19, according to News 18.

Here are the demands put forth by the Confederation of Central Government Employees and Workers.

  • Form 8th Pay Commission immediately.
  • Restore Old Pension Scheme for all employees and scrap the New Pension Scheme.
  • Release 18-month DA/DR frozen during the pandemic and restore commuted portion of the pension after 12 years instead of the current 15.
  • Remove 5 per cent cap on the compassionate appointments when employees die during service or retire on medical grounds.
  • Fill up vacancies in government departments and prohibit 'outsourcing'
  • Approve pending recognition of associations and federations and withdraw de-recognition of unions like Postal Group C Union, NFPE etc.
  • Regularise casual and contractual labourers and Gramin Dak Sevaks.
