Will Nirmala Sitharaman continue to focus on lowering fiscal deficit?

Nirmala Sitharaman | Reuters

The interim Budget was presented on February 1 ahead of the elections and the upcoming full Union Budget budget will give an overview of the new government's plans for the rest of the year.

The second Modi government had announced earlier this year that the interim budget would be a vote-on-account, which is the grant made by the Parliament in advance to meet the expenditures for a part of the fiscal year until the Union Budget is presented by the new government following the Lok Sabha polls.

The expectations regarding the upcoming Union Budget is at a high as industry stakeholders and investors hope for a policy continuation with the NDA returning to power last month. It is to be seen whether Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will put more money in the hands of the common man or push the reform policies to lower the fiscal deficit to 4.5 per cent of the GDP by 2025-26.
