Govt to focus on increasing the participation of women in the workforce

The government will set up working women hostels to promote the participation of women in the workforce, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said during the presentation of the Union budget 2024.

The minister said the government will focus on increasing the participation of women in the workforce.

"We will facilitate higher participation of women in the workforce by setting up of working women hostels in collaboration with industries and establishment of creches in addition the partnership will seek to organise women-specific skilling programmes and promotion of market access for women SHG enterprises," the minister said.

"For promoting women-led development, the Budget carries an allocation of more than Rs 3 lakh crore for schemes benefitting women and girls."

She further said Rs. 2.66 lakh crore has been allocated for rural development, including rural infrastructure.

The finance minister said three crore additional houses will be constructed under the PM Awas Yojana in rural and urban areas.
