India's electric vehicle space has seen a slew of launches in 2024 from the Tata Curvv to the MG Windsor and the luxury Mercedes EQS among others.

Home-grown Mahindra and Mahindra on Tuesday revealed its two new electric sports utility vehicles (SUVs) - the BE 6e and XEV 9e.

Mahindra currently sells the XUV 400 electric SUV in the country. However, that was essentially based on the conventional XUV 300 SUV.

The BE 6e and XEV 9e are the first of the products on Mahindra's all-new electric origin INGLO architecture.

The company on Tuesday only revealed prices of the starting variants of the two electric SUVs. The BE 6e will cost Rs 18.90 lakh introductory, ex-showroom and the XEV 9e has been priced at Rs 21.90 lakh ex-showroom.

Mahindra’s go-to-market strategy for the two electric SUVs will roll out in a phased manner in the latter part of January 2025. Deliveries of the two electric SUVs are expected from the end of February or March 2025.

Company officials have said prices of all the variants of BE 6e and XEV 9e will be revealed closer to that.

While both the electric SUVs are based on the same platform they both have distinct design elements. The XEV 9e, for instance, has a more coupe SUV look. The BE 6e, on the other hand, is more angular and has a cab-forward design.

Both the SUVs will get many features rivalling those offered by more premium and luxury rivals. For instance, there is a 16-speaker immersive sound system from Harman Kardon with Dolby Atmos.

There will be two battery packs on offer - 59 kWh and 79 kWh. The MIDC-certified range for BE 6e is 682 km and 656 km for XEV 9e with a 79 kWh advanced LFP battery pack.

Company officials say one would be able to charge the battery from 20 per cent to 80 per cent in 20 minutes on a 175 kW DC fast charger.

There will be three 31.24 cm screens in the XEV 9e. The BE 6e will get dual screens. The vehicles will also get augmented-reality heads-up displays. Other features include multi-drive modes, ADAS level 2, and over-the-air software updates among many other things. Both the SUVs are also high on safety features.
