The government on Monday appointed Sanjay Malhotra, currently serving as the Revenue Secretary under the Ministry of Finance, as the new Governor of the Reserve Bank of India.
Malhotra, a 1990-batch Rajasthan Cadre IAS Officer, will replace Shaktikanta Das, whose tenure ends on December 10.

“The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Shri Sanjay Malhotra, IAS, Secretary, Department of Revenue as Governor, Reserve Bank of India for a period of three years from 11.12.2024,” said a notification issued by the Department of Personnel and Training.
An engineering graduate in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, Malhotra has a Master's in Public Policy from Princeton University in the US.
He has worked in multifarious sectors, including power, finance and taxation, information technology, and mines, among others in a career spanning over 33 years.
Before taking charge as the Revenue Secretary, Malhotra held the post of Secretary in the Department of Financial Services.
