Real estate fraud seemed to be the norm this week for Navi Mumbai, the satellite township to Mumbai, as multiple police reports reported various cases being registered regarding sale deals.

Police officials said that a 48-year-old doctor was allegedly cheated of Rs 70 lakh by three persons with the intent of selling a flat in Navi Mumbai.

The alleged perpetrators, including a woman, showed the flat to the doctor. However, it was already sold to someone else. They asked the doctor to pay Rs 70 lakh, but when he found out he did not get possession of it, they evaded his calls.

When the doctor could not reach the accused to get his money back, he filed a complaint with the police, who registered a case amounting to cheating and criminal breach of trust, according to law enforcement officials.

In another case, the Navi Mumbai police announced they registered a case against the owner of a private firm and four others for allegedly duping 36 persons of at least Rs 2 crore in land deals.

According to police, the victims and the accused entered deals regarding the sale of land at Jui in Navi Mumbai and took around Rs 2.07 crore from them. Yet, they did not provide the victims with possession of the land. They also refused to return the money.

An official at the Vashi police station said that the case was registered after the victims lodged a complaint against the company owner and four others.

Another alleged crime that was reported in Navi Mumbai had a 26-year-old Tempo driver as the victim. An official from the APMC police station said that the accused met the victim between December 21 and 22 and allegedly took Rs 5 lakh from him in exchange for a bundle of notes they claimed to be US dollars.

However, when the victim later checked the notes, he discovered that only the facing note was a US dollar note and the rest were blank pieces of paper.

The police said they registered an FIR against three accused following the victim's complaint on Tuesday.
