From robot puppies to Honda 0 SUV: Here are a few crowd-pullers of CES 2025

Tech convention CES 2025 saw major brands like Honda, Volvo, and Sony exhibit the latest in innovation at Las Vegas

CES 2025 Crowdpullers

Honda unveiled its electric vehicles under the "Series 0" at the CES 2025 over the weekend. The Japanese autogiant launched two EV models, the Honda 0 Saloon and the Honda 0 SUV. In the US, the rollout of the EVs is expected to be in 2026.

Another major automaker was Volvo Group, with CEO Martin Lundstedt talking about the advancements in battery-powered trucks in the CES 2025 Keynote. "Volvo Group is fully committed to achieving net zero emissions by 2040," added Lundstedt.

Tractor maker John Deere also introduced its largest autonomous tractor. Armed with the Gen-2 autonomous system, the 830hp machine comes with 16 cameras and is powered by Nvidia GPUs.

Tech giant Sony also launched the PXO AKIRA, a driving simulator mounted on a Jeep. The company expects this to be rolled out not just in collaborations with automakers, but also in gaming and retail.

Among the new tech on display was LetMeDoIt, an app that enables people with disabilities and senior citizens to have "decision autonomy, whether it relates to everyday life decisions or managing personal finances", according to its co-founder, Indian-origin entrepreneur Angad Sahgal.

Jennie is a "fully interactive robotic emotional animal", according to the makers, TomBot. According to the robotics firm, the robot dog was designed specifically for patients with dementia.

The robot dog is covered with sensors that help it determine if someone is petting it, as if like a real animal. Apart from "Jennie", which was the name given to the robot on display, the animatronic dog can be programmed to any name you like and it will then respond to that.

Another notable product was Glide from Glidance, which looked like a cane on wheels. But what it really is is a miniature self-guided vehicle (like an autonomous car) that helps guide people with low vision and the blind to navigate in the real world using live 3D mapping. Glide could also be programmed with Google Maps for much broader navigation.

Coming back to automobiles with the latest tech, Xpeng AeroHT from China unveiled an aircraft that can fit in the boot of a car, called the "Land Aircraft Carrier Modular Flying Car".

CES is currently the world's largest technology convention. Under the banner of the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) in the US, the event is ground zero for displaying the innovations in tech across sectors, be it AI, automotive, healthcare, and sustainability.

The 2025 edition, from January 7 to January 10, took place at the Las Vegas Convention Center and other venues in the city and saw more than 141,000 attendees. It featured more than 4,500 exhibitors, that included startups and major brands.
