BMW launched the X1 Long Wheelbase All Electric at the Auto Expo. It comes with all the frills that one would expect in a BMW. The highlight, however, is the attractive price—it starts at Rs 49 lakh, around the same as the starting price of the X1 with a petrol engine.
It is also probably the least expensive luxury electric vehicle in India. Mercedes Benz EQA starts at Rs 67 lakh and Volvo EX40 at 56 lakh. Even the BYD Seal starts at around Rs 41 lakh.
The X1 is the biggest car in its segment and offers a range of up to 531 km. Volvo EX40 offers a range of up to 475 km and the Mercedes Benz EQA offers a range of 560km.
It is the first electric BMW made in India (others are all imported as completely built units), and that might have helped it bring down the prices. It comes with a complimentary 11kW BMW Wallbox charger with installation. BMW has one of the biggest charging networks in the luxury segment with fast chargers at the BMW dealer network in 35 cities.
The X1 has a 10.25-inch instrument cluster paired with a 10.7-inch central information display with touch and voice control. It also allows you to use a compatible smartphone or smartwatch as a digital key which can be used to unlock and drive the car. The digital key can be shared with up to four people.
