The full-size SUV offering from JSW MG Motor India enters the market to take on Toyota's mainstay, Fortuner, which enjoys a loyal following

MG Majestor SUV

JSW MG Motor India just launched the Majestor SUV at the Bharat Mobility Auto Expo 2025. Essentially an upgraded Gloster, it will take the segment leader Toyota Fortuner head-on.

Full-size SUVs are far, and few in India, and none offers any meaningful competition to the Fortuner. The Majestor is big and strong enough to fill that gap.

Under its hood is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder twin-turbo diesel engine, delivering 216hp and 479Nm of torque. It has an 8-speed automatic gearbox, with rear-wheel or four-wheel drive configurations.

The three lockable differentials available for the 4x4 configuration enhance its off-road capability. It is expected to be priced in the Rs 40-45 lakh range.

The diesel Toyota Fortuner starts at Rs 36 lakh and goes up to Rs 52 lakh. It comes with a 2.8-litre four-cylinder engine that can deliver 201.15bhp and 500Nm of torque.

The competition is hotting up in the segment, with Skoda also launching a new Kodiaq at the AutoExpo. Nissan Motor India launched the fourth generation X-TRAIL, one of its top-selling SUVs globally, in India last August.

MG is likely to keep the existing Gloster in the market, positioned a tad below the Majestor. Currently, the only other player in the segment is the Jeep Meridian.
