Prepare for the unpredictable, Rajnath Singh tells Army commanders

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh says asymmetric warfare, including hybrid war, is here to stay and the Indian Army should be prepared to meet such challenges

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, while addressing the second Army Commanders’ Conference which began in a hybrid mode on Thursday, asserted that the people the India see the Army as one of the most trusted and inspiring organisations in the country.

He observed that unconventional and asymmetric warfare, including hybrid war, will be part of the future conventional wars as evident in the recent conflicts happening in various parts of the world, and urged the commanders to keep these in mind while planning and formulating strategies.

“We must keep learning from the incidents to include the global ones, happened in present as also in past, so as to avert the damage control. Be alert, regularly modernise and prepare continuously for various contingencies,” the defence minister said.

War preparedness should be a continuous phenomenon, he said, adding the security forces should always be ready for unpredictable scenarios and uncertainties that may crop up at any time.

Highlighting the role played by the Army in guarding India's borders and fighting terrorism, he hailed the bravery of every soldier who laid down his life for the country.

“I compliment the excellent synergy between the CAPF/Police forces and the Army in tackling the menace of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. The synergised operations in the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir are contributing to increased stability and peace in the region which was also evident in the recently conducted elections, and for this, I again compliment the Indian Army”.

Singh praised the Army for the high standard of operational preparedness and capabilities and complimented the significant contributions made by the Army in military diplomacy to further our national security interests by creating sustainable cooperative relationships with foreign armies.

The minister hailed the Army leadership for successfully taking ahead the ‘Defence and Security’ vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and lauded the force for the infusion and absorption of cutting-edge technology for its various operations.
