DG Paramesh Sivamani assumed charge as the 26th Director General of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) on Tuesday.

The three key pillars with which I intend to progress the Coast Guard on all fronts are probity, transparency, and objectivity, he said after assuming charge. "On the maritime arena, close collaboration and cooperation with the Indian Navy and the Marine Police will be a sine quo non for me to ensure that all assets of maritime security are well addressed," he added.

An alumnus of the National Defence College, New Delhi, and Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, Sivamani's prior appointments include heading the Coast Guard Region (East), Coast Guard Region (West), Coast Guard Commander Eastern Seaboard).
Sivamani was elevated to the rank of Additional Director General in September 2022, and was later posted at the Coast Guard Headquarters in New Delhi. He was given the additional charge of Director General Coast Guard in August 2024.

During his career spanning over three decades, Sivamani, who specialises in navigation and direction, commanded all major vessels of the Coast Guard, including the advanced offshore patrol vessel ‘Samar’ and offshore patrol vessel ‘Vishwast'.
The flag officer oversaw many major operations and exercises, including the seizure of drugs or narcotic substances and gold worth crores of rupees. He also oversaw the joint exercises with the foreign coast Guards, anti-poaching operations, and humanitarian assistance during cyclones and natural calamities.
Sivamani was conferred with the Tatrakshak Medal in 2014 and the President Tatrakshak Medal in 2019. He was also awarded the DG Coast Guard Commendation in 2012 and Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (East) Commendation in 2009.
