Manipur arms bust: Indian Army leads coordinated raids; recovers guns, warlike stores

In a series of joint operations, the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, and Manipur Police recovered 11 weapons, explosives, and warlike stores from Churachandpur, Chandel, and Thoubal districts in Manipur. The cache included grenades, mortars, pistols, and rifles

The Indian Army and Assam Rifles, in collaboration with Manipur Police and other security forces, recovered 11 weapons and warlike stores from Churachandpur, Chandel, and Thoubal districts of Manipur in a series of joint operations.

Two countrymade mortar (pompi), one countrymade pistol, grenades, explosives, ammunition and warlike stores were recovered in the Thoroilok area in Churachandpur district following an intelligence-based operation launched on Tuesday by Indian Army, in coordination with the Manipur Police and CRPF.

Meanwhile, a joint operation by Assam Rifles and Manipur Police in Lamzang village in the same district led to the recovery of one .303 rifle, one single-barrel rifle, ammunition, and warlike stores.

Assam Rifles carried out combing operations in areas between Songkhom and Gunjil village in Chandel district and recovered one automatic weapon (9 mm), two locally-made mortars, one single-barrel gun, ammunition and warlike stores.

In a similar operation on Wednesday, Assam Rifles, along with Manipur Police launched a joint search operation in Kwarok Maring village in Thoubal district and recovered a cache that included one 9mm country-made pistol, one single-barrel breech-loading (SBBL) gun, two grenades, ammunition and warlike stores.

“The successful recovery of these warlike stores highlights the seamless cooperation between the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, and other law enforcement agencies, demonstrating their commitment to ensuring the security and safety of the region,” a statement from the Indian Army read.

With such operations, the security forces remain committed to their efforts to maintain peace and stability in the area, the Army further said.
