The militant opened fire at an Army vehicle around 7am and then fled into the forests nearby. The attack prompted a quick response from the security forces and engaged the militants in firefighting.
Initially, one militant was killed, and as the operation prolonged, the Army mobilised BMP-2, a Soviet-era combat vehicle known for its robust capabilities, including a 30mm automatic cannon, anti-tank missiles and night vision technology to enhance surveillance and secure the vicinity near the Assan temple in Jogwan village along the Line of Control (LoC).
Along with the BMP-2, NSG commandos were brought in to intensify the search and combat operations against the militants. The Army also used rocket launchers to target suspected militant hideouts. Helicopters hovered over the target area to locate the militants in nearby forested areas. After more than 20 hours, three militants involved in the attack were killed.
“After round-the-clock surveillance throughout the night, an intense firefight unfolded this morning, resulting in a significant victory for our forces, ”Army's White Knight Corps announced on X. They said the combination of relentless operations and tactical excellence led to the successful operation.
The operation resulted in the recovery of several arms and ammunition from the site, marking a crucial step in maintaining security in the region.
Militant attacks have witnessed a spike since the government of the National Conference-Congress alliance led by Omar Abdullah, the first in a decade, assumed office on October 16. The attacks on non-local labourers have also increased, prompting security agencies to heighten security across the state.
