Disengagement in eastern Ladakh happening in orderly manner, says China

India and China are implementing disengagement along the LAC in eastern Ladakh. Troop withdrawal is nearly complete in Depsang and Demchok, following Modi-Xi’s agreement, easing tensions along the border

China said the armies of India and China are implementing the resolutions concerning the disengagement in eastern Ladakh along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in an orderly manner.

On Wednesday, while replying to a question on the progress of the disengagement, Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Lin Jian said both countries have reached resolutions on issues concerning the border and added that at the moment, the Chinese and Indian frontier troops are implementing the resolutions in an orderly way.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, on October 21, had said in New Delhi that the agreement was finalised following negotiations and that it would lead to a resolution of the issues that arose in 2020. On October 23, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping endorsed the agreement on patrolling and disengagement along the LAC in eastern Ladakh.

India's defence sources told news agency ANI on Tuesday that the disengagement in the Depsang and Demchok areas has "almost completed," and both sides are now cross-verifying if the military personnel and infrastructure in these regions are removed.

Meanwhile, the US said it welcomes any reduction in tension along the India-China border. "We are closely following the developments (between India and China). We understand that both countries have taken initial steps to withdraw troops from friction points along the Line of Actual Control. We welcome any reduction in tensions along the border," US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller told reporters.

We have talked to our Indian partners and been briefed on it, but we did not play any role in this resolution, Miller said.
