President Droupadi Murmu witnessed the operational demonstration by the Indian Navy at sea on Thursday, during her maiden visit to the Navy ships at sea.
President Murmu arrived at the Indian naval air station INS Hansa, located near Dabolim in Goa, and was received by Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, and Vice Admiral Sanjay J Singh, the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command.
She embarked on the indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant at sea, operating in the company of 15 frontline warships and submarines of the Navy.
She also witnessed several naval operations, including deck-based fighter take-offs and landings, missile firing drills from a warship, submarine operations, flypasts of over 30 aircraft, and traditional steam-past of warships.
The President was accorded a 150-men ceremonial 'Guard of Honour' and was briefed about the Navy's role and charter and the concept of operations.
She interacted with the crew of INS Vikrant. This was followed by her address to the fleet that was broadcast to all units at sea.
