Commander Prerna Deosthalee and Commander Ishan Deosthalee scripted history for the Indian Navy, by becoming the first brother and sister to command two different warships of the Navy at the same time.

Commander Prerna Deosthalee, who now commands INS Trinkta, a Trinkat-class vessel capable of high-speed maneuvers and operates effectively in shallow waters, had become the first-ever woman officer to be given command of a warship of the Navy last year.

Now, her brother, Commander Ishan Deosthalee, has been handed over command of INS Vibhuti, a Veer-class corvette of the Indian Navy, designed as a modified version of the Tarantul-class vessels.

They are commanding these warships under the Western Command.

Commander Prerna Deosthalee was also the first female observer of the Navy on the Tupolev Tu-142, a maritime reconnaissance and anti-submarine warfare (ASW) aircraft.

Hailing from Mumbai, Prerna Deosthale was commissioned into the Indian Navy in 2009. She was also the First Lieutenant of the warship INS Chennai.
