Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, who is in Nepal for a four-day visit during which he will seek to further ramp up the already close defence and strategic ties between the two countries, will be conferred with honorary rank of 'General of the Nepal Army' by Nepalese President Ramchandra Paudel on Thursday.
This is in continuation of an age-old tradition that first started in 1950, reflecting the strong ties between the two militaries.
On Wednesday, General Dwivedi interacted with Indian Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava and had an informal discussion with General Ashok Raj Sigdel, Chief of the Army Staff, Nepali Army.

He will also be given a Guard of Honour at the Nepali Army on Thursday, following which he will hold a formal discussion with COAS Ashok Raj Sigdel.
General Dwivedi will be briefed by the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of the Nepali Army on issues of common interest at the Nepali Army headquarters on Thursday, Army officials said.
On Friday, he will address the student officers of the Nepali Army Command and Staff Course, Shivapuri.
On the last day of his visit, General Upendra Dwivedi will attend an Ex-Servicemen Rally at Pokhara.
The visit aims at strengthening military cooperation between militaries of India and Nepal, besides exploring new avenues of collaboration between the two countries.
India and Nepal share close defence ties with regular exchanges of military training, visits, and defence modernisation. The two countries are critical partners in enhancing mutual military capabilities, particularly through training programmes.
