China's robotic revolution: After robot dogs, China showcases wall-climbing spy robot at joint military drill

China showcased a wall-climbing reconnaissance robot during joint drills with Singapore, enhancing military capabilities alongside robot dogs, drones, and unmanned vehicles for anti-terror operations

 A wall-climbing robot to support China's reconnaissance and strike capabilities was on display at the ongoing China-Singapore joint army drill, the China-Singapore Exercise Cooperation-2024.

According to media reports, the troops deployed a plate-shaped wall-climbing robot on a building. It looked like a robotic vacuum cleaner and stuck to the wall and climbed upward.

According to Chinese military expert Song Zhongping, the robot has the ability to attach to walls and is likely equipped with optical and acoustic devices to see and hear. This would enhance the reconnaissance capabilities of the forces as the wall-climbing robot will help them access locations that are otherwise tough to reach.

In a battlefield, the robot can cover blind areas, boosting the reconnaissance and strike capabilities of the forces.

This is not the first time that China displayed such robots during joint military drills. Some time ago, robot dogs capable of carrying assault rifles and ball-shaped reconnaissance drones were on display during drills with Cambodia, Laos, and Nepal.

According to Song, as reconnaissance is a highly dangerous task, especially during anti-terrorism missions, unmanned equipment like wall-climbing robots will ensure the safety of troops.

The China-Singapore Exercise Cooperation-2024 seeks to explore combat approaches in anti-terrorism operations. Other robots that were part of the drills include explosive ordnance disposal robot, window-breaching aerial drone, and armed reconnaissance unmanned vehicle, according to a Global Times report.
