Chief of the Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi visited the headquarters of Southern Command in Pune and witnessed the 'Southern Star Idea Innovation Display', which highlighted innovative projects and indigenous R&D initiatives developed in partnership with Pune-based industries.
General Dwivedi interacted with innovators and industry representatives and hailed their efforts. He stressed importance of innovation in tackling the challenges faced in modern warfare.
The COAS acknowledged the progressive mindset demonstrated at the event and reiterated the commitment of the Indian Army to harness technology and support the government's vision for self-reliance in defence sector.
Veterans honoured
During his visit, General Dwivedi honoured Colonel Shashikant G Dalvi (Retd) and Subedar Suneeth S (Retd) with the 'Veterans Achievers Award'.

After his retirement from the Indian Army, Colonel Shashikant G. Dalvi (Retd) has dedicated his life to water conservation and environmental sustainability. Through his organisation, PARJANYA, he has implemented over 650 rooftop water projects, reducing annual Carbon dioxide emissions and promoting water self-sufficiency in villages and urban areas, the Southern Command said in a tweet.
Colonel Dalvi also conducts awareness campaigns and advises policymakers on sustainable water solutions.
Subedar Suneeth S. (Retd) has been facilitated for dedicating his retired life to the welfare of veterans, veer naris and widows. He has organised ex-servicemen rallies to strengthen connections among veterans and has created job opportunities for veer naris and widows through the Army Welfare Placement Organisation.
