Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the occasion of Indian Navy Day on Wednesday, hailed the commitment of the Navy, saying the force ensures the safety, security, and prosperity of India.
Navy Day is observed as an acknowledgement of the Navy's seminal role in the country's defence. December 4 was chosen as the day to commemorate the Indian Navy's bravery against Pakistan during the 1971 war when it inflicted heavy losses on the enemy.

The Navy Days is an occasion to commemorate the bravery, dedication, and sacrifices made by the men and women in the Indian Navy to protect the country's maritime borders.
The theme of this year's Navy Day is 'Strength and Power through Innovation and Indigenisation' in keeping with the government's push on self-reliance in defence.
Taking to X, Modi said, "On Navy Day, we salute the valiant personnel of the Indian Navy who protect our seas with unmatched courage and dedication. Their commitment ensures the safety, security and prosperity of our nation. We also take great pride in India’s rich maritime history."
